The Wedding of the Lamb

Revelation 19:7:  Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready.

Have you read these words in the last pages of the Bible before?  Do you actually believe that the Lamb (Yeshua/Jesus) is speaking about a very real, actual wedding that will take place when He returns to the earth?  Have you ever wondered who His bride will be and what this will all look like?

I have! And if it is possible for there to be a tiny glimpse of what it looks like and what it feels like, I think I may have been given that splendid opportunity in this lifetime! On the 1st of June my granddaughter and her fiance were married upon a verdant, grassy knoll behind a magnificent old mansion in Virginia.  The wedding ceremony was lovely, the bride was radiant and dressed in the most exquisite gown I'd ever seen, and her bridegroom was completely overcome with tear-stained joy and boundless love.  All of this was enough to fill one's heart; but there was something else that happened on that joyful occasion that made me think of this verse in Revelation and how it will be in that Day.

All my children were there. All my stepchildren were there. All my grandchildren except one were there. My new husband was there and my ex-husband was there.  The bride's other grandmother and I were the "flower grandmas" who spread the rose petals along the bridal aisle and whispered and laughed and rejoiced together.  There was no bitterness. No hurt or wounds crept into our thoughts. We were so overjoyed to see one another, and all be in the same place together to celebrate this wedding, that every bad memory and every perceived offense was gone, completely erased from the human heart.

Isn't this how it will be, my friends? Isn't this what we truly have to look forward to when we, the Bride of Messiah, walk down the aisle and glance from side to side, seeing all the people from our earthly lives who have accepted the Lord, repented of our sin, and made ourselves ready for His return for us? Fine linen, bright and clean, will be given for us to wear (Rev. 19:8) .

And then the angel said to me, "Write: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb" (Rev. 19:9).  I remember my profound joy when I watched family members who had been long estranged from one another, laughing together, dancing together, feeling blessed to be reunited and one with all those who had been invited. It was a Restored Family that I witnessed before me. It was unbridled joy. And yet, it was only a glimpse of what is to come...
