An Appointed and Set Time

The time came for me to call the Public Health Clinic to make appointments for our vaccinations required to visit Kenya.  After visiting with the nurse in the Travel Clinic it was agreed that we would all need the usual Yellow Fever, Typhoid and Hepatitis A vaccinations, as well as meds for Malaria; but I was certainly not prepared for the current price tag on these vaccines.  Astonished , I asked, "Did you say $1400 for the four of us?"

"Yes, approximately $1400 including office visits and administrative fees."

I had no idea! The last time I got these shots during my years of continual missions travel, they were around $20 per shot, instead of today's $80-100.  I had not even thought about the increase in medical costs.  And of course, we are very unhappy about having to have these vaccinations in the first place; who wants to put all this in their bodies and their grandchildren's bodies?!

Fear and doubt crept in.  I lay awake most of that night crying out to God, "Is this trip really of You? Have you called us to Kenya or was it my idea? Do you want us to go through all this and is it YOUR plan, Father? I need to know!"

Literally moments after praying that fervent prayer, my cell phone rang.  I looked at the digital clock and when I saw the time, I leaped out of bed, thinking it must be some kind of emergency! No one calls my cell phone at 11:30 at night.  I got to the phone just in time to hear the gentle, lilting African accent of Rev. Samuel in Kenya. "Hello, Kelly? I do not know what time it is for you, but here it is Resurrection Day of our Lord and I wanted to call and tell you how much all of our people and our students are eagerly looking for your coming!"

I melted into the arms of my Father, who heard my cry and gave me an immediate, undeniable answer.  It is His plan and He will provide, even for these medical costs!  Rev. Samuel continued, "I know this trip is very, very expensive for you, but I want to tell you that you will impact the lives of over 2,000 of our children in the school, and many, many more in our churches and our open marketplaces. I have arranged a weekend challenge for the youth, and you and your grandchildren will teach our young people about living a life of repentance and holiness."  I told him my 13-year-old grandson has prepared a lesson on the 10 commandments and why we are still called to keep them today. He joyfully replied, "This is wonderful! I have arranged all your transportation and on one day we will walk an hour's walk to a small village where the most needy children are.  You can bring a ministry of music and love to them."  Then he repeated a second time, "I know it is expensive, but God has arranged it and He will work in power."

Often we think that Africans look at all of us Americans as so rich that NO expense is a problem; so I was deeply humbled that Rev. Samuel seemed to have a genuine understanding of the sacrifices being made to bring this ministry to his people.  He oversees two schools with approximately 1000 in each school, and seven churches around the Kitale area.  We have an open door to not only bring them the love of Messiah, but also to teach them about their inheritance as a part of the Restored Israel, and their need to repent before the God of Israel and live according to His Torah.

Still, one of the greatest miracles of all is that the last two days of our time in Kenya will be spent with Pastor Leah and her congregation in Nairobi.  I met her on the bus in Jerusalem while on my prayer watch in 2005. She was there to help with the convocation in Jerusalem and our kindred spirits united so closely that day that we have stayed in touch. I ministered in her church when I last traveled there in 2005, and now it seems that YHVH as appointed us to minister there again on the 8th of June, the very day of Shavu'ot (or Pentecost), the day that Israel received the Torah at Mt. Sinai, and the day that the Holy Spirit was poured out in power upon the believers!  Pastor Leah has requested that I teach her church about the Feasts of the LORD.  Hallelujah! I stand in awe at the appointed times of our God and how He has opened this door for us to experience a tremendous outpouring in Africa on this special Feast Day!

Yes, it is an appointed and set time! God answered my cry immediately in the middle of the night. He is so gracious. Sometimes His answers are a long time in coming, but this time I believe He knew I had an immediate need to be certain I was in His will.  So, our appointment at the clinic is set on May 6.  Our departure date is May 27. We are counting the omer as we count the days toward Shavu'ot, and our hearts are filled with great expectancy.

There is still time if you feel led to help us accomplish this mission. You can go to our website by using this link: www.doorkeeperministries.com/donate.  Or, you still have time to send a check to DoorKeeper Ministries at P.O. Box 233, Eaton, CO 80615. We will be so very grateful for your help!
And to the family who purchased the projector for Rev. Samuel's use in the schools and churches, and the family who sent the donation for the needy children's home, we pray God will pour that blessing back into your lives a hundredfold!

Thanks so much to all of you who will pray for us from May 27-June 8.  Your prayer covering over us means much more than anything.
In the service of the King,
Kelly, John, Jayde and Jackson
