It was August, 2005 and I had just arrived in Jerusalem to keep my one-year PRAYER WATCH over Israel. I remember stumbling into the big cement House of Prayer at the top of the Mount of Olives, lugging one suitcase and my portable electronic piano, wondering what awaited me in this adventure God had sent me on. Just before my arrival in Israel I had been on a mission trip in Kenya and on a Kenya TV program I had seen the news and pictures of the Jewish people being expelled from their homes in the Gaza. Now, with my feet on Israeli soil, I saw with my own tearful eyes great numbers of Jews walking the streets of Jerusalem with one small suitcase or back pack, searching for a place to stay. In those moments I knew that Almighty God had given to me a heavy burden of prayer for the Jewish people, and this up-close-and-personal tragedy caused my heart to break. I sensed that I was feeling Abba's heart for His beloved children and for Israel, His Land.
Because we had no TV in the House of Prayer, it was a long time before we heard about Hurricane Katrina, which had barreled into Louisiana on August 29, 2005; but the news did not surprise us. As intercessors from all over the globe, we understood immediately that there was a connection in the TIMING of that terrible hurricane. As author and Washington Correspondent Bill Koenig continues to watch and illustrate for us, America is judged according to how she is treating the Land and the people of Israel. His book Eye to Eye tracks the history of this powerful pattern. And now - TODAY - August 29, 2021, SIXTEEN YEARS TO THE DAY AFTER KATRINA, Hurricane Ida is about to make landfall in the exact same place! Is this a coincidence? Is there a connection to Israel? Well, here is a brief explanation from The Times in Israel, dated August 28, 2021 (yesterday): WASHINGTON — US President Joe Biden reaffirmed his plan to reopen the US consulate in Jerusalem [also known as the de facto mission for the Palestinians] and expressed his opposition to Israeli evictions of Palestinian families in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood during a closed Oval Office meeting with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, a senior White House aide in the room told American Jewish leaders in a subsequent phone call on Friday. In researching the history of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, I found that since Israel seized East Jerusalem in the 1967 war, Israeli settler organizations have claimed ownership of the land in Sheikh Jarrah and have filed multiple successful lawsuits to evict Palestinians from the neighbourhood. Two settler groups filed lawsuits saying that Sephardic Jews owned the land in 1885, during Ottoman rule, which ended in 1917. I find it a bit amusing however that this evidence of Jewish ownership dates back to 1885; but GOD'S evidence of ownership dates back to His Covenant with Abraham! (See the Genesis scripture below). Also from a Newsweek article dated May 16, 2021: In a separate conversation with Abbas, Biden reiterated his "strong commitment" to negotiating a two-state solution between the Palestinians and Israelis. I hope this is not lost on people! With all my heart I know that the Creator of the Universe is the One who controls the weather, and He speaks passionately when it affects His Covenant Land and His Inheritance! When the Jewish people are expelled from their own rightful land (as they were in 2005), or prohibited from inhabiting, settling and defending their own land, there is a great consequence; and the more our government leaders participate in a plan to DIVIDE THE LAND OF ISRAEL AND FORCE HER INTO INDEFENSIBLE BORDERS, the more our Righteous God and Judge is going to act! Pray earnestly for the people in the path of Hurricane Ida today, and pray for America's leaders to return to a solid position of support for Israel and the Jewish people. God made a Covenant regarding this Land - and God says it is everlasting! Genesis 17:1-8 (CJB) When Avram was 99 years old Adonai appeared to Avram and said to him, “I am El Shaddai [God Almighty]. Walk in my presence and be pure-hearted. 2 I will make my covenant between me and you, and I will increase your numbers greatly.” 3 Avram fell on his face, and God continued speaking with him: 4 “As for me, this is my covenant with you: you will be the father of many nations. 5 Your name will no longer be Avram [exalted father], but your name will be Avraham [father of many], because I have made you the father of many nations. 6 I will cause you to be very fruitful. I will make nations of you, kings will descend from you. (vii) 7 “I am establishing my covenant between me and you, along with your descendants after you, generation after generation, as an everlasting covenant, to be God for you and for your descendants after you. 8 I will give you and your descendants after you the land in which you are now foreigners, all the land of Kena‘an, as a permanent possession; and I will be their God.”
